Terms of Service
Last updated: July 1, 2026
About these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of reland.ca and the services Reland offers. By using our website or engaging our services, you agree to these Terms. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Reland is a landscape design planning business based in the Ottawa area, Ontario, Canada. In these Terms, “Reland,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean that business; “you” means the person using our website or services.
What we do
Reland creates landscape design plans for homeowners. We offer our service in packages, described on our website, which differ in their level of site involvement, collaboration, and design depth. Some packages are available across Canada; others are available in the Ottawa area.
Our service is design and planning. We produce a plan you can build from — not construction, installation, or the build itself.
How our service works
Our website describes each package in general terms. To begin, you complete a short quiz so we can understand your project. We then send you a personalized offer for your specific yard.
The price, scope, and full terms of your project are set out in a Service Agreement, which we provide with your offer. Your project is governed by that Agreement, which you review and sign before any work begins. Where these Terms and your Service Agreement differ on a project-specific point, your Service Agreement applies.
Quotes and offers
The prices shown on our website are starting prices. Your final price depends on the size, complexity, and scope of your project, and is confirmed in your personalized offer. An offer is valid for the period stated in it. No work begins until you have signed your Service Agreement and payment has been received.
What our plans are — and are not
Our plans are prepared to be clear, practical, and useful for planning, communicating with contractors, and guiding construction. They are design documents.
Reland is not an engineering firm, architectural firm, or licensed engineering or surveying practice. Our plans are not engineered construction documents, structural designs, legal property surveys, or permit drawings. Where a plan illustrates something like a retaining wall, grading, drainage, or irrigation, it does so at a conceptual, planning level — to help you and your contractors understand the intended layout, materials, and scope. Final technical design, engineering, code compliance, permits, and installation are the responsibility of the qualified contractors, engineers, or licensed specialists who carry out the work, where such permits, engineering, or professional licensing are required for that particular work.
Not all landscape work requires permits, engineering, or a licensed professional. You are responsible for confirming that anyone you engage to build from our plans is appropriately qualified and, where the specific work requires it, properly licensed and insured.
Your information and responsibilities
For online projects, the quality of your plan depends on the accuracy of the information, measurements, and photos you provide. We give you guidance to help, but we rely on what you share. For projects that include a site visit, we take responsibility for the site assessment, and you remain responsible for providing safe and clear access to the property.
You agree to provide accurate information and to respond within a reasonable time so your project can move forward.
Ownership and use of your plan
When your project is paid in full, you receive a licence to use your completed plan for your own property and project — including building from it with any contractor or specialists you choose. Reland retains ownership of and copyright in its plans, drawings, designs, and underlying work.
We deliver final plans as ready-to-use documents. Original working or source files are not included by default; if you need them, they can be requested and released under separate conditions.
Using project images in our marketing
Reland may use images, plans, renderings, and visuals from completed projects to show our work — for example, on our website, portfolio, and social media. We will not publish your name, address, or other identifying details without your consent.
Payment
Fees are quoted in Canadian dollars (CAD), with GST/HST added as applicable. Payment terms for your project are set out in your Service Agreement.
Refunds and cancellation
Refund and cancellation terms are set out in your Service Agreement. In general, once you have confirmed your design concept, the fee is non-refundable, because work on your full set of deliverables then begins. The specific terms that apply before that point are described in your Agreement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- Reland provides design and planning services only, and is not liable for construction, installation, engineering, permitting, or the work of any contractor or other party;
- We are not liable for outcomes arising from site conditions, from inaccurate or incomplete information provided to us, from misuse of our plans, or from changes made to a plan after delivery;
- Our plans do not guarantee construction results, costs, plant survival, or contractor performance; and
- Reland’s total liability for any claim relating to our services will not exceed the amount you paid to Reland for the project giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Website use
You agree to use reland.ca lawfully and not to misuse it — for example, by attempting to disrupt the site, gain unauthorized access, or extract data by automated means. Our website may link to or rely on third-party tools that have their own terms and policies.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada that apply there.
If a disagreement arises, we ask that you first raise it with us directly so we can try to resolve it in good faith. We will always make a genuine effort to find a fair, reasonable resolution before any formal step is taken. If a matter cannot be resolved this way, it will be subject to the courts of Ontario.
Changes to these terms
Reland will grow and change, and these Terms may change with it. When they do, we will post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date. By continuing to use our website or services after an update, you accept the revised Terms.
